Christina Bailey
Middle, Open, and Champion class

My first 2 OES were born in 1974 and 1975. Their names were High Flyer of Rollingsea and Winter Beauty of Rollingsea. Having grown up with Newfoundlands and GSDs, most of which were shown, it was inevitable that they would be shown as well. So in due course the In., German + VDH Champion titles were added to their names. By the time I moved from Germany to England I had bred or owned 12 OES Champions under the Zottels affix. The most well known was probably Int.,Ned.,German.,Swiss Ch. Zottel’s Estee Lauder, who was Top OES in Europe in 1984. She together with 7 other OES moved with me to England in 1985. They were to become the foundation of the successful Lameda Zottel kennel. Ch. Zottel’s

Miss Marple of Lameda, who as a puppy went through 6 months of quarantine was to finish her show career as the new English Breed Record holder with 51 CCs, Top Bitch All Breeds in 1987 + B.I.S. at the OES Club’s Centenary Show in 1988 (entry 250 OESs). Miss Marple also proved to be a successful broodbitch with 25 Champions to her credit, 14 of which are All Breeds Championship Show B.I.S. winners. Up to now she has only been overtaken by her son Ch. LamedaZottel Flamboyant, who ended his career with the accolade of Top Dog All Breeds in 1991and 1992 and 57 CCs. Flamboyant’s last born son, my own, UK, Int., Lux., Ned.,Ch. Zottels You Don’t Fool Me (Lionel), is the only other Old English Sheepdog ever to achieve the award for Top Pastoral and Runner Up Top Dog All Breeds in 2001 and Top Dog All Breeds in 2002. It was also him, who helped me to fulfil one of my biggest dreams, when he took the CC & BOB at Crufts 2002 under Mr. J. Swatkins and then went on –as the first OES- to win the Pastoral Group under Mr. D. Smith. The thrill & the feeling of taking part in the "ultimate" Best in Show competition I will never forget.

There have been many more lovely dogs, which I bred over the past 30 years, too many to mention all. Some are Champions (20 UK and 88 worldwide) some are just much lovely family pets. However they all represent the biggest part & interest of my life. Through the interest in dogs I have had many lovely experiences and made many great friends across the world. I have had the privilege of taking part with my dogs in the TV series "Jobs for the girls" and being asked to write the book "The Complete Old English Sheepdog"; and in January of 2002 I have had the great honour of receiving the "Golden Bone Award" for the Top Breeder of the Year 2001 All Breeds, an accolade I am very proud of. I have awarded CCs in England on 11 occasions – including Crufts 2003- and judged many times at CC level in following countries: Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Germany, Austria, Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, France, Italy, Spain and the USA.

My interest in the breed started 33 years ago, when we purchased our first OES. Getting the show bug, when someone said, why don’t you show him and since then my husband & myself have been 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year Old English Sheepdogs.

We have had the ‘Hamble’ affix for 30 years but have only bred 5 OES litters, 1 Lhasa Apso litter & 2 Bearded Collie litters. However from these few we have produced 3 Champions with several CCs between them.

Ch. Hamble Hooch & Ch. Hamble Heavenly Dream at Palamine were produced from my lovely bitch LamedaZottel Number One At Hamble. Her type & beautiful breeding has passed through to her children & grandchildren.

The Bearded Collie Ch. Hamble Hucklebury, who’s dam was from the famous ‘Moonhill Kennel’ won the Pastoral Group at Crufts in 2003, so following his grandmothers footsteps, who won BIS at Crufts in 1989.

Having spent the last 20 years helping OES rescue, which is very time consuming & running a business, we have only bred on a small time scale, but have always shown throughout the years, owning several OES & making up dogs to Champions.

I have given CCs in the breed & been judging & stewarding all breeds throughout the years. So I feel, I have now done my apprenticeship in Old English Sheepdogs.

I have been lucky to judge several times in Europe & have seen several kennels & their breeding programmes.

I am very much looking forward to judging in France in 2007 at the famous ‘Euro Show’ and I feel highly honoured to have been asked to share the judging with Mrs. Christina Bailey.
